MFU is the “gold standard” for non-surgical lifting and skin tightening.
Micro-focused ultrasound (MFU) is an advanced, non-invasive technology used in aesthetic medicine to tighten and rejuvenate the skin without surgical intervention. This method uses high-intensity focused ultrasound waves to precisely target the deep layers of the skin, such as the SMAS layer (superficial musculoaponeurotic system), without damaging the surface layers. MFU is the ideal choice for those who want a non-invasive treatment with minimal discomfort, maximum precision, and long-lasting results. It is particularly suitable for lifting the face and neck, providing a natural effect with no recovery time.

How does MFU work?
MFU creates small zones of thermal coagulation (heat damage) at depths ranging from 1.5 mm to 13 mm, where the temperature rises above 60°C. This leads to protein denaturation and stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin (neocollagenesis).
The ultrasound passes through the surface of the skin without harm, and real-time visualization allows for precise tissue targeting. The treatment lasts between 30 and 90 minutes, depending on the area, and can be individually adjusted using different transducers (cartridges). Results appear gradually, with improvement visible after 2–3 months, maximum effect after 6 months, and lasting up to a year or longer.
- Face and neck:
- Tightening sagging skin, lifting the cheeks, reducing double chin, minimizing wrinkles and fine lines.
- Body:
- Rejuvenation of the décolleté, arms, abdomen, or thighs, removal of fat deposits, and improvement of skin texture.
- Combined therapies:
- Often combined with fillers, botox, or radiofrequency for enhanced results. Suitable for people aged 30–65 with mild to moderate skin laxity, both men and women.
- Non-invasive:
- No incisions, scars, or downtime – you can return to your activities immediately.
- Natural results:
- Stimulates the body to produce collagen naturally, without artificial materials.
- Safety:
- FDA-approved, low risk of complications, and real-time visualization reduces error. Meta-analyses show a high improvement rate (up to 89% according to experts).
- Long-lasting:
- Effects last longer than other non-invasive methods.
The treatment is generally safe but may cause temporary pain (moderate, rated 4–6/10), erythema (redness), edema (swelling), or tenderness, which usually resolve within hours or days. Contraindications include pregnancy, active infections, epilepsy, open wounds, or implants in the treatment area.
It is important to use original devices to avoid fake treatments that can cause burns. The use of anesthetic cream and pain relievers before the session is recommended.

Differences between MFU and HIFU
Micro-focused ultrasound (MFU) has several key advantages over high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), making it the preferred choice for precise aesthetic treatments, especially on the face and neck. Here are the main advantages of MFU:
- Greater precision
- MFU uses micro-focused energy to precisely target specific points in deeper skin layers (for example, the SMAS layer at 1.5–4.5 mm).
- Real-time ultrasound visualization allows practitioners to see and treat targeted areas accurately, minimizing the risk of damaging surrounding tissue.
- Less discomfort
- Due to precise focusing, MFU often causes less pain and discomfort during treatment compared to HIFU, which uses broader waves and can cause a stronger sensation of heat or tingling.
- Greater safety
- Real-time visualization ensures better control, reducing the risk of unwanted effects such as burns or uneven treatment, which are more common with HIFU systems lacking this feature.
- Faster and longer-lasting results
- MFU stimulates collagen production more efficiently thanks to micro-focusing, leading to faster and more visible results (often within 1–2 months).
- Lifting and tightening effects last longer, often over a year, compared to HIFU (6–12 months).
- Ideal for sensitive areas
- MFU is specifically designed for delicate areas such as the face, neck, and décolleté, where subtle and precise correction is required for a natural look. HIFU is more often used for broader body areas where precision is less critical.
- Approvals and standards
- MFU devices often have stricter approvals (such as CFDA or FDA) for specific aesthetic treatments, confirming their effectiveness and safety.

Why is it more effective than other tightening and lifting methods?
- Deeper action:
- Unlike lasers or RF (radiofrequency), which act on superficial layers, MFU targets the SMAS layer, providing an effect similar to a surgical lift.
- Natural process:
- Instead of adding foreign materials (like fillers), MFU stimulates the body to regenerate tissue naturally.
- Minimal invasiveness with maximum results:
- The combination of deep action, safety, and durability makes it superior to surface treatments.
In short, MFU is effective because it combines deep, precise action with natural collagen stimulation, without surgery, offering minimal risks and long-lasting results.

How often should MFU treatment be done?
The recommended frequency of micro-focused ultrasound (MFU) treatment depends on individual needs, skin condition, age, and patient goals, but there are general guidelines based on professional recommendations and clinical practice.
- Treatment frequency:
- Most experts recommend MFU treatment once a year. The effects, such as skin tightening and collagen stimulation, typically last 12–18 months, although in some patients they can last up to 2 years.
- Initial treatment:
- One session is usually sufficient to achieve visible lifting and tightening. In some cases, with significant skin laxity or specific aesthetic goals, an additional session may be recommended after 6 months, depending on professional evaluation.
- Age and skin condition:
- Younger patients (30–40 years) with mild laxity often have longer-lasting effects and may need treatment less frequently (every 1.5–2 years). Older patients (50+) with greater laxity may benefit from more frequent treatments (annually).
- Desired results:
- For anti-aging prevention, one treatment per year is usually enough. For more noticeable changes, a shorter interval between sessions may be recommended.
- Skin quality and lifestyle:
- Factors such as smoking, sun exposure, diet, and genetics affect how long results last. People with healthier lifestyles tend to have longer-lasting effects.
- Device type and treatment intensity:
- Different MFU devices or settings (depth, number of lines) can influence frequency. More intensive treatments with more lines may require less frequent repetition.

Body applications
Suitable for areas such as the neck, décolleté, abdomen, thighs, arms, knees, or buttocks, targeting sagging skin, cellulite, or small fat deposits. Results become visible after 2–3 months, with maximum effect at 6 months, and last 6–12 months, after which retreatment is recommended.
- Non-surgical:
- No incisions, scars, or long recovery time – you can return to daily activities immediately.
- Safe:
- Most studies show mild side effects such as temporary redness, swelling, or mild soreness (moderate pain, which can be eased with anesthetic cream or painkillers)
- Effective:
- Meta-analyses show high patient satisfaction (up to 90%) and improved aesthetics, especially in mild to moderate skin laxity cases.
